What is Dyslexia?

  • Each of us is amazing and unique, thanks to the remarkable ways that our brains work differently.

  • We all have our own strengths and weaknesses.

  • Some people find aspects of reading, spelling, writing, and maths tricky, as well as remembering things, understanding and recalling information quickly, and planning and organising their thoughts and ideas.

  • When someone experiences some or all of these challenges, they may have dyslexia.

How can a Dyslexia Assessment Help?

An assessment can make a positive difference.

It will ...

  • Identify your child's strengths and the reasons behind their struggles.

  • Help you and your child understand how they learn.

  • Develop your child's self-esteem and confidence.

  • Unlock your child's potential

by actioning the key recommendations from the report.

  • Help inform Access Arrangements.

What does a Dyslexia Assessment involve?

  • An assessment takes just over 3 hours and explores many areas, including language skills, underlying cognitive abilities, and literacy attainment.

The circles below show all the

      assessment areas.

  • The assessment usually takes place in a quiet room at your child's school. This enables your child to share their classwork with me, I can meet their teachers, and they still enjoy playtime with their friends. However, I can come to your home if this is felt to be best.

  • Once the assessment is completed, the results are carefully considered, along with the background information from home and school, and a report is written and sent to you digitally.

  • After you’ve reviewed the report, a meeting is arranged to discuss it, answer any questions, and help decide the next steps.

What is the cost of an Assessment?

The cost of a full diagnostic assessment is £510

What Does An Assessment Involve?

About Me

Hello, my name is Anna. I am a specialist teacher assessor for Specific Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia. Although I assess children of all ages, I  focus on the primary years, as I believe that early identification and intervention are essential for helping children with dyslexia reach their full potential and, most importantly, to be happy. When a child, their parents and teachers understand how they learn and apply effective strategies, confidence and self-belief can truly flourish.

With over 25 years of experience spanning both state and independent schools, I have held roles as a class teacher, Learning Support teacher, and SENCO. I am now proud to run Bath Dyslexia, where I combine my expertise with my passion for supporting children who find learning at school challenging.

I am a SASC-registered dyslexia assessor and hold an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC). While the APC is not mandatory, it reflects my commitment to maintaining high standards and staying current with assessment procedures.

My active APC ensures that my reports are thorough and detailed, providing an extra level of insight and support. This is so important when considering your child's next steps. They are recognised by the Department of Education, Local Authorities, and schools, and can be used as guidance for access arrangements. Additionally, if a diagnosis of dyslexia is confirmed, they can be utilised when applying for Disability Student Allowance (DSA) in higher education.
